Password Best Practices (our best tips):

We know, we know. Making a unique password for every site is hard. (Near impossible without a password manager.) So how important is it really, to have unique passwords for every site? And why?

Password Best Practices (our best tips):

  1. If you want to keep your passwords safe from hacking, one of the most important things you can do is to have completely different passwords for every site. Why? Malware called a “Keystroke Logger” can report back everything you type to the hacker, who will then look for patterns. No patterns = no way to determine your passwords.
  2. Don’t reuse even a part of any password. If scammers guess the part you reuse, it makes the rest so much easier to guess with a Brute Force hack. For example: 6 lowercase letters takes a script 10 minutes to hack (see photo below). Generally, the longer your password, the more secure your password is!
  3. If you start using a password manager which generates passwords for you and remembers them so you don’t have to, suddenly having unique passwords becomes much easier. We recommend (and are affiliates for) LastPass, but there are many trusted password managers out there. The long and short of it is: They can keep your passwords safe and remember unique ones better than you can.
