Take a Photo

Imagine you’re out snapping photos and struggling to press the shutter on the front of your phone due to the angle of the phone in your hand. Fear not – your volume buttons double as shutter buttons! With a simple click, you can capture moments with precision, no more blurry shots or awkward angles. Or, hold the button down the entire time while in Panorama mode, release when your pano is complete!

Take a Video

The same trick as above works with video. Just switch from photo mode to video mode, and press the volume button once to start the video, and again to stop. Or, directly from photo mode, press and hold the either volume button continuously to record a short video. It will stop the video when you release the button!

Silence a Phone Call

Want to quickly silence a ringing phone call without letting the caller know you’ve done it? Press the volume down button when the phone is ringing, and it will silence the ring, but send the caller to voicemail in the usual number of rings. This same trick will also stop vibrations, and can silence incoming FaceTime calls. Sneaky!

Snooze or Turn off your Alarm

Most people who use their iPhone as an alarm can relate with the difficulty in finding the snooze button while groggy. Use the volume down button to snooze your alarm instead! If snooze has been disabled, this same trick will turn off the alarm.
